Wedge shoes have a heel that runs as one solid piece from the back of the shoe to under the ball of the foot, rather than a separate heel. You'll find wedge sandals, espadrilles, courts and boots.

A lower wedge of up to about 7cm, a cushioned footbed and an adjustable strap make wedges comfortable for long days. Many people find wedges easier than heels, because the sole spreads your weight under the whole foot.

Wedge shoes have a continuous sole from heel to toe, while platform shoes raise the front of the foot separately. Wedges usually feel more stable and supportive.
